When U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins, R-Lafayette, declared himself “100% opposed” to the new congressional map his own party was passing, commentators rushed to call it principled dissent.

In a social media post, Higgins called the map a “Frankenstein looking thing” but notably omitted any mention of a racial gerrymander and refused to even name Cleo Fields, his congressional colleague who’s being displaced in the new boundaries.
