Thomas Graham Jr. spent much of his life trying to make an unthinkable event less likely. As an American diplomat and lawyer, he helped negotiate the agreements by which nations sought to limit nuclear weapons and prevent their spread. As a son of Louisville, he carried into that work a conviction that a life should be of service to others.

Graham died Sept. 3 at his home in Washington. He was 92.
