President Donald Trump has appointed Gov. Jeff Landry to a federal council that historic preservation advocates fear will weaken or eliminate protections for historically significant sites across the country.

Landry was sworn into his new position on the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation on Jan. 30 and can serve until 2029 as long as he remains governor.
