The number of new nonfarm hires in the U.S. in February was 4.8 million, the lowest rate of hires, 3.1%, since the pandemic employment crash of April 2020, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Tuesday. Prior to the pandemic, the last time the hiring rate was so low was in 2011.
