LA CONNER — The nine men who gathered in the Skagit County Historical Museum on Tuesday, May 19 had flown in from around the country.

They weren’t necessarily familiar with the area. At least one pronounced “Skagit” with a hard “g” (Skag-it). Their connection with the region and each other came instead through their time in the military more than five decades ago, when most were in their 20s.
