AIRWAY HEIGHTS – Area residents are overwhelmingly opposing an effort to implement a new tax for protection of aquifers.

The ballot measure on the Aug. 4 primary election ballot was failing by 999 votes as of press time Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Preliminary results show the measure was opposed by 55.38% of voters, with 5,139 opposition ballots being counted compared to 4,140 supporting.
