Tennessee’s legislators seem determined to push forward on school vouchers, despite good recent evidence that such programs, locally operating under the alias Education Freedom Scholarships, are costly, ineffective, and unpopular with the electorate.

The Tennessee Senate version of expansion would increase the program to 40,000 seats for the 2026-2027 school year, doubling the current number; the House version would get us up to 35,000 seats.
