Suquamish Tribal members are celebrating a new state ban on the unauthorized sale of nitrous oxide, a sedative historically used for medical purposes that has seen a recent surge in recreational use.

Azure Boure, a Suquamish councilmember, said seeing that growth first hand led the tribe to ban the sale of these products on its reservation in September 2025. This year she and other tribal members led the push for a statewide ban.
