I was extremely fortunate to be in the very first class of West Virginia Promise Scholars in 2002. At the time, the scholarship paid for students’ full tuition at in-state public colleges and universities.

Because of the Promise Scholarship, I never had any student loans, and I’m so thankful for that. My friends who graduated the year before me weren’t so lucky.
