Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Tuesday announced she would extend the activation of the State Emergency Operations Center, as Michigan communities face threats of severe flooding and potential dam failure risks prompted by warming temperatures and increased rainfall.

The governor first activated the center on Friday, in response to rising water levels on the Cheboygan Lock and Dam Complex on the Cheboygan river.
