Two bills aiming to streamline the process of certifying a death, while also creating new requirements for the filing of a death certificate through a secure web-based system were signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Tuesday.

The legislative package comprised House Bill 4077 and House Bill 4078, now Public Acts 3 and 4 of 2026, sponsored by state Reps. Julie Rogers (D-Kalamazoo) and Mike Mueller (R-Linden), respectively.
