Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin on Friday condemned what they described as a clear act of antisemitic violence after a gunman attacked a synagogue preschool in West Bloomfield Township, saying the incident reflects a broader rise in hate targeting Jewish communities.

Speaking at a press conference held across the street from Temple Israel, Whitmer said the attack occurred while more than 100 children were inside the building’s school and daycare center.
