While a ranked-choice runoff is needed to determine the winner of the Republican gubernatorial primary, Bobby Charles is in the lead based on votes counted Tuesday night.

No candidate received more than 50% of the first-choice votes counted on Election Day, so the Secretary of State’s Office confirmed Wednesday it will proceed with ranked-choice voting tabulations, which will begin on Friday in Augusta and is expected to wrap before June 19.
