When senators refused to take up a child abuse prevention measure known as “Raylee’s Law” on Monday, a House of Delegates committee quickly advanced their version of the bill through a committee as legislative deadlines loom.

“Raylee’s Law” was named for an 8-year-old girl who died of horrific abuse and neglect in 2018 after her teachers notified Child Protective Services of potential abuse, prompting her abusers to move her to homeschooling.
