For the eighth consecutive year, a Rhode Island lawmaker is making his pitch to allow small bets among friends and coworkers without the risk of facing potential fines and prison time.

The legislation sponsored by Rep. William O’Brien, a North Providence Democrat, received a three-minute hearing a little more than a week before the New England Patriots are set to take on the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 60.
